 Esports Ohio Regional Finals

Esport Ohio is coming to town this week. Yep our esports team will be hosting esports Ohio this weekend for a two night tournament to decide who will make it to the state finals. The state finals will take place at Akron University later in the month. First, though let me back up a bit. You may be asking what is esports Ohio.

Esports Ohio is a high school esports league that has over a 40 participating teams from all over the state. These teams are not yet recognized as sports teams as of now and most act as clubs. However the scene is growing at a very fast rate for high school teams. Ohio is one of the leading states when it comes to esports along with Texas and New York. These states are starting to inspire many others to get involved such as Michigan, Florida, and  Indiana. Eventually, each state will have their own esport teams and we will be able to have national tournaments in a variety of games.If that does happen it will make the pipe line even bigger for students to pursue esports in higher education. Universities are already looking at these high school leagues more than other forms of recruiting due to the high level of commitment found within the leagues. 

Esport Ohio coming here for their regional is big because it gives us the chance to look into the future of the program. Most matches will be held in the Bear Cave but others will be in the esports rooms and  IT department building.
