Chapter 6
Use of Twitter
Twitter is my second most used social media platform behind TikTok. The reason for that is because of the industry I work in majority of connections are made through Twitter. Esports as of its current state is a popularity contest in a way.
Let me explain. Esports is currently ran by young adult and teenagers with that many are still in the mindset of high school and college. This shapes the places they connect with people and how they see things. Twitter for many is the place to connect with people especially within the gaming community. It is a place were people can share there opinions on topics freely as long as they follow the guidelines. Twitter is also a place to share accomplishments and feats that other platforms may offer. The only difference is the convince of Twitter and the sheer size of it. For esport athletes Twitter is a place to build your resume in a sense because there are many eyes within the community on their. Posting clips of your gameplay can be a very big thing if the right eyes see it. It only takes on clip for you to earn a tryout on professional team. While that last statement was a bit exaggerated it does have truth. For esport athletes there is no combine for players. The only way for you to be noticed by teams and organizations is through social media or word of mouth. Which typically still stems from social media.
Overall, I see Twitter as the place for the majority of esport athletes, owner, tournament organizers, directors and more to connect on. While still keeping there core audience informed on topics relating to the company or person's brand.
I find your insight to the world of E-Sports helpful as somebody who hasn't quite stepped into that realm. I see Twitter as a great place to report news on sports, global news, and other things so I think "E-Sports wouldn't fit in this environment," but this article really changed my mind! Love it!
