ONU E-sports First Week of action

Hello all, congratulations on surviving the first week of the 2023 spring semester. ONU E-sports had an exciting week of matches that were all streamed live on twitch.tv/onu_esports. Where you can find all the matches from last week.

    VAL

Valorant was the first couple of matches to be played for the ONU esports team. Where they unfortunately fell to UIC which I talked about in detail. (https://e-sportworlds.blogspot.com/2023/01/onu-e-sports.html) Later in the week that had a chance to redeem themselves against Depaul University. Our team would lose the first match of the best of 3 series. Depaul just seems to be the more overpowering team. Making them hard to read for our in-game leader. Until one of our players (Justin Brown) stepped up and took over the mantel for the second game. Where ONU looked like a completely different team running through Depaul to make the series 1 for 1. In the final match ONU was upset after a great early start to the match. Depaul was able to secure the win over ONU in the first round of Collegiate Valorant. This match can be watched back at this link. (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1720506569)

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 also kicked off their season in 2 best of 5 matches against Anderson and Mount Union in a local league called Great Lakes Esport Conference (GLEC). The first match against Anderson started quick and heavy with ONU looking to make quick work of Anderson. Which ONU accomplished with a quick 3-0 victory starting their season with a great win. However, the team did not get overzealous and kept their composer going into the best of 5 against Mount Union. Who the team expected to be a tougher opponent. ONU would be wrong to assume as they made Mount Union scramble for answers in one of the quickest best of 5 that we have seen here at ONU. ONU Overwatch was able to claim both victories starting their season 2 – 0!!!

Rocket League

Rocket League kicked off their season by also having two matches like Overwatch. They started their day with a best of 5 against Bethel. The team started off rocky dropping the first game to Bethel with a 3-2 loss. ONU was able to learn and grow from their mistakes winning the next game in overtime 3-2 score line. ONU kept the ball rolling and going in the Bethel net, winning the next two games 3-1 scoreline and a 4-3 scoreline. With the last game being a massive 0-3 comeback. ONU Rocket League started strong with the first match which they were hoping would carry into the harder battle against Anderson. ONU lost the first match of the best of 5 to Anderson 0-2. However, just like their first series ONU was able to respond quick with a 3-1 victory in match 2. Anderson would learn from their mistakes scoring 3 in the next match making the series 1-2 in favor of Anderson. The pressure would get to ONU Rocket League which would fail to make the comeback and fall to Anderson 1-3 in the best of 5. Starting their season 1-1 in GLEC.

It was a good week for ONU esports. The stream schedule has already been released for 1/29 to 2/4. You can watch all these matches here. https://www.twitch.tv/onu_esports
